Week 17 Outlook and Eagles Recap: All I Want For Christmas Is This Season To End

First of all, Merry Christmas. The end is close. I must admit last Saturday was the least I have ever paid attention to any game I have attended. I honestly think I watched a generous 10 plays. I did not even realize Mariota got hurt until I hearing Johnson’s pass picked off my Cooper DeJean. There isn’t much to really say. Football in Washington is over. It’s just like it has always been around here. Maybe, the Wizards will get a good draft pick and draft the next franchise savior. At least, we have one competent team in the Capitals

There was a single morale victory that came out of this game. We were winning at halftime. That’s all I’ve got. Mariota went down. I do think despite leading us to two wins he still earned himself a contract extension as a backup down the line. I mean if Dart is in the conversation for Rookie of the Year with 2 wins, then Mariota has earned another spot. Bill and Rodriguez both got in the endzone. At this point, the only touchdown scorer on our team I am going anywhere near is Rodriguez, who was ruled out today. That is something I would not have expected to be saying at this point in the season. I expected to be writing about playoff seeding.

You know it’s gotten really bad when Josh Johnson has become the starter. You know it’s gotten really, really bad when they have to announce they aren’t going to start Sam Hartman on a short week with no reps. A friend made the point that is essentially what his job is and I do very much agree. It’s likely a disguised way of saying we don’t want him getting everyone hurt throwing hospital balls. Hartman is carving out a career brownnosing Jayden and I cannot be upset at him. But, it’s obvious they never intend to put him on the field. It was funny when we were good but now that we suck he has to go and make room for someone who can actually play football.

Anyways at 1pm today we have to kickoff in front of the world in what is essentially a meaningless football game for both teams. To get into my thoughts today, I hope we do not win. I would really not love that. The only guy on the field I know to be playing for something is Deebo. With a good game, he can net himself almost a million dollars. He is probably the most upset about having Josh Johnson out there today. I would be pretty annoyed too. I still think he is worth betting on today. I would be very surprised if Kliff isn’t force feeding him the ball by the 2nd quarter.

All 3 games today are a nightmare. The NFL could not have gotten this one any more wrong. This might be the first Christmas I watch the NBA in years. I would have liked to round robin defenses and underdogs. However, I don’t think any underdogs have a shot in hell today. I could not be anymore ready for the NFL season to be over. My Super Bowl take has been heavily contradicted but I do think it is inevitable who wins it this year. I will unveil it in the coming weeks. None of it matters regardless. Football is stupid. I am looking much more forward to the offseason and writing about rebuilding this team instead of the recaps. I am not excited to write about losing today but I will be looking forward to that. Maybe, for the next blog I’ll recap the holiday binge drinking totals. I think personally I’ll find more joy in writing that and whoever reading this will enjoy too. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas!
