Football is back and that means my Sunday mornings are going to be a whole lot brighter. Maybe not the afternoons, but none of that right now. Optimism describes my feelings for the season. Our first opponent is the Cleveland Browns. I expect Sam Howell is going to take at least some snaps on Friday. You could say I’m excited to watch Sam spin the rock this year. It would be really cool to watch him throw a lot of touchdowns to his friend Terry. And I’m talking like a lot of touchdowns. I am definitely targeting Terry in all fantasy leagues this year, but we will discuss who we think are league winners and late round steals in a separate blog. A Friday night preseason game is going to be interesting. We are in Cleveland. I assume the stadium will be somewhat crowded. What else is there to do in Cleveland on a Friday night? Dorian Thompson-Robinson looked good in the first game. I only watched one drive, but he did throw a touchdown on it. So I can say he looked pretty good. I will definitely be watching at least the first quarter to see the starters, but let’s be real I am not going to spend my Friday night on my buddies couch watching our backups. If I happen to conveniently be at a bar with TVs, then yes, I will do nothing but stare at the TVs the entire time.
And yes if DraftKings posts lines, then I will absolutely be gambling on this sports game. It’s the first opportunity of the season to bet on our boys and I think there’s way too much value out there to pass it up. I don’t expect Sam will take many snaps and I really don’t think Jacoby will play after the second quarter. It is going to come down to Jake Fromm to win this game for us. If you had told me Jake Fromm would be on the team during that year ending with the Tua comeback, then I would have been so incredibly excited. It is a shame to see how his career hasn’t panned out, but obviously something is there if he has been able to bounce around rosters for this long. It is cool to see him living the true backup QB life. It is one of the better jobs out there. He is absolutely good enough to win us this game. According to bettinginsiders, we are 3 point underdogs with a +135 moneyline. The over is set at 38.5. First off, I love the over. It’s the beginning of the year and defensive breakdowns are bound to happen. The next best thing you can do for your bank account is parlay that over with the team’s moneyline. A -110 and +135 parlay should create the best combination of picks to maximize your value, enjoyment, and engagement with the game.
It’s Bieniemy’s coming out party. And before even his first game, this blog has officially put Eric Bieniemy on the hot-seat. If the offense doesn’t put up 50 points, then it was all Mahomes. Literally, this game is do or die for him. All eyes are on you Eric. If you run the flick pass on the goal line and the ball gets picked off and taken back for 6, then just consider that your welcome to Washington moment. Around here, we have never seen us create full field 3 play drives. We take off entire fourth quarters running the ball down the opposing team’s throat. That’s how we play ball in Washington. The best defense is not giving the ball to their offense. That is my first piece of advice to your as our offensive coordinator. We are your fans, Eric. We hope you succeed. But, someone must take on the responsibility of our team failing to produce points. And, that person just so happens to be you. We are going to write off Ron leaking the news of players complaining about the practices. We’ll cut you some slack just this one time as our welcome to Washington and say that the players are being soft and truly do not understand the dynamic and level of commitment that goes into becoming a regular on SuperBowl Sunday. But, don’t get too comfortable. You have no idea what you just signed up for.
