As a fan, it is hard to be upset after that game. The team put together an admirable performance that was exciting to watch and had me at the edge of my seat until the very end. I was very worried about many things before this game. I was expecting a blow out. Shockingly, we actually showed up and nearly took down one of the best teams in the league. The most reassuring thing was that it wasn’t the Eagles playing down to our level but us playing up to theirs. Covering 9 points isn’t anything to be proud of but it’s always fun to stick it to Vegas. Do we have Philly’s number? With the disparity in talent and management, I would like to think so.
It would have been incredible to get out of Philly with a win. I would have had nearly a month of bragging rights over my piece of shit friends from Philly. I would have won my bets and been in a great Monday mood. Everything in the world would have been so good. Not going for two took all of this away from me. Riverboat Ron really screwed that one up. It’s going to be really hard to refer to him as Riverboat anymore. He failed to stay consistent with the aggressive coaching style he is known for. His comment after the game was that the offense was gassed. I just don’t really don’t know what to say. It’s really bad.
I am very excited for Eric Bieniemy to soon be our head coach. The more stupid comments Ron makes like this means the more likely he is to be fired/retire at the end of the year. There’s my positive. I still can’t believe it. I think every single fan was sitting on their couch screaming “Go for it!” I am okay with our defeat, but I would have been even more okay with it had we gone for two and not converted. At least that way, we go out swinging instead of having to deal with a terrible, horrendous, disgusting, malicious call made on Terry’s catch that was ruled incomplete.
In the picture that went viral, you can absolutely 100% see green between Terry’s foot and the out of bounds line. Perfectly thrown ball. The Eagles are so lucky that dude’s arm was somehow where Terry’s foot was landing. If it had been called a completion on the field then it would have stood. We would have gone on to score and won the game but the refs who definitely had money on the Eagles took it away from us. Needs an investigation and the NFL needs to create a rule where if a player’s arm is on the ground and the arm is being stepped on then that arm is part of the ground and therefore the foot is inbounds. I am going to look into filing this and report back. I blame Goodell, the referees, that guy’s arm, and Ron Rivera.
I think Sam was being too hard on himself with his comments after the game. In football, there are moral victories and this was one of them. There are so many positives for him to take away from this game. He balled out and on the last drive looked like a 10-year NFL vet. He got the ball out of his hand quickly and lessened the impact of the Eagles pass rush. He used his legs very well when it was needed. He didn’t take bad sacks like he did against the Bills. No turnovers. His stats may not show it but he played a phenomenal game on Sunday and did everything he needed for us to win. It sucks we did not get to see it, but I do genuinely think we would have converted the two-point conversion if we put the ball in his hand.
One of my favorite things Sam did on Sunday was target Terry McLaurin. Every time we play the Eagles you can count on Terry putting up numbers. Even when he wasn’t being thrown the ball, he still managed to make the second biggest play of the game. If he doesn’t jump on the ball in the end zone then the game may as well have been over right then and there. Terry just loves that football. No matter what, he is going to get his hands on it in the end zone. Such a heads up play by Brian Robinson to fumble the ball around Terry. It was very easy to forgive this fumble. It’s the only mistake he will make all year because he is the best running back in the league. While our oline is a liability at pass blocking, they know how to pave the way for BRob. Or is it just because BRob is the goat? I think the best means of conjuring up optimism is to say both. I know it is going to happen one week where BRob goes for 160 and 3 touchdowns. You never know it could be just one day away. Hammering home on the Terry receptions, BRob touchdown, and ML parlay every week.
Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel both had touchdowns in this game. Jahan’s should’ve been the game winning touchdown. The route was great and the throw was even better. We need to start involving Curtis more. The handoff to him was completely unexpected. I did not see that one coming and that means the defense had no idea as well. Logan Thomas and his ability to hold on to hospital passes is insane. At this rate, he is going to be in a wheelchair by week seven. I think I would literally not be on Earth anymore if I took some of the hits he has this year. I don’t understand how he still holds onto the football. His touchdown catch against the Broncos and then this week down to the two-yard line. I would literally be in a casket if I took either of those hits. He’s not the same play-making tight end from before before but he is a leader. That’s why he’s the best tight end in the game.
30 points in three straight games is concerning. This isn’t something you normally see from elite defenses. With the talent on our defense, we should never be letting up these numbers. We have all of the pieces back from the covid team. It is a defense absolutely packed with first-round picks. I think we all know the person to blame here. JDR may be on the out with Ron whenever that happens. I saw a stat over the last few years that we have let up absurd numbers through the first quarter of the season before tightening it up. If our defense can return to what it was and have an offense putting up over 30 points a game, then we are going to be dirty. This is extremely optimistic but the chances of it happening this season are not zero.
It was a tough day for Forbes. He deleted his twitter which was probably a good idea. Why bother opening up your phone every 10 minutes to see a new tweet shitting on you? Props to Emmanuel for taking a much needed mental health break 4 games into his NFL career. I wonder if he knows Gonzalez is now out for the year and the comparisons are done for the time being. I will cut him some slack and say it is not easy guarding AJ Brown and Stefon Diggs in your first month in the NFL. I can really only play this card for so long. He’s going to have to get used to it and get used to it fast. I will say however he does create a lot of opportunities to get his hands on the ball. If only he could start catching it, then I would be a little bit more okay with him getting burned. I will say he must have some good trash talk. He definitely had something to do with AJ Brown getting that penalty at the end of the game. I definitely think the talent is there and he just needs more time to develop.
Chase Young is back once again. He has played in three games since coming back and has three sacks. That would mean he is averaging one sack per game. Those are stats I like to see. We need to find a way to pay him and Montez. It seems like we have missed on every Defensive End pick other than JSW since their drafts. We need to keep this line together at all costs. We held the Eagles rushing to 107 yards and sacked Hurts 3 times. We did not defend the tush push. However, in the 1st quarter Allen’s sideways approach was awesome. He took out like 3 dudes legs and slipped under and was able to grab and pull Hurts back. I wondered why he didn’t take the same approach at the end of the game but it definitely seemed like a very high risk play and I can understand why he wouldn’t want to voluntarily get fallen on by multiple 300 pound men again.
We are in for a barn burner tomorrow night with the Bears coming to town. At the beginning of the season, everyone thought the Cardinals were going to be the worst team in the league, but through four weeks it has absolutely been the Chicago Bears. When it comes to incompetent football, the Bears are the epitome of it. I have a weird feeling we are going to make Justin Fields look like 2004 Michael Vick in the first half and fight our way back. We have always been so bad about dealing with running quarterbacks because Jack Del Rio still hasn’t realized the quarterback is also allowed to run the ball. Putting the negativity aside, I don’t see us losing this game. It is absolutely possible for us to shit the bed, but the Bears actually might be too shitty of a team for us do this. I have to say the future is exciting for Chicago fans and the fact that they will most likely have the number one and two picks in the upcoming draft. I don’t think anybody from Chicago is really rooting for them to win this game. They are all already aboard the Caleb train.
It will be a packed house of Skins fans at FedEx for a primetime game. I want to thank the schedule makers for giving us Thursday night Redskins vs. Bears for the second year in a row. Last year’s 12-7 shootout was arguably the most exciting game of the year with Tress Way causing a fumble to setup BRob for a game winning touchdown. Carson Wentz was our quarterback for this game last year and threw for a whopping 99 yards on 12 completions. Jesus Christ, we were down bad. Thankfully, we now have a revamped offense, a fully healthy defense, and Dan Snyder far, far away from our organization. It should be a great night to be a Skins fan. I am looking forward to watching us win by double digits and finally dominate a team from start to finish. It won’t be a stats game, but it will be a beat down. Skins by 90.
