It’s times like this when you remember that football isn’t everything. Sure, it’s a lot and having a good football team is pretty fun. But, there’s a lot more to life than watching your favorite team win games on Sunday. I, personally, have gotten to the point where I no longer want to watch this team, hear about this team, or even think about this team. I am still going to attend every game I can for the rest of the season. But, that doesn’t mean I am going to enjoy it.
The season might as well be over with now. There is no reason for Jayden to return. I still cannot believe we had him out there down by 30 in the 4th quarter. The only reason was for garbage time points so the final score didn’t look as bad as the game was. It looked so bad. At least it was his leg or throwing arm. That was the closest thing to a Monday Night massacre we’ve seen in DC since the actual event. Sam Darnold put together the greatest half of football I have ever seen. I went to get a water while we were punting. Before a single person in the line had been served, they had already scored a touchdown. After the first drive, there was not a single moment in that game where I thought we had a chance. But hey, at least the jerseys from both teams looked good.
I am shocked nobody has been fired yet. Not a single individual has been held accountable. We have been outscored 100-29 in the last 10 quarters of football. Joe Whitt still having a job is flat out insane. At this point, I’m even surprised that Dan Quinn still has his job. He is turning into Ron. It’s the same thing all over again. We held out on a coach hoping we’d get Ben Johnson. He turns us down. Then, we hire another defense first head coach who doesn’t even know how to run a defense. Last year was simply an anamoly. Everything else around here might as well be Groundhog Day.
The trade deadline passed and we made zero moves. I was expecting we would be trading guys for draft picks. Then, it hit me. Who the hell do we have that anyone would want to trade for. Lattimore was honestly our best option to trade. However, he ended up tearing his ACL and is gone for the season. I do wish him a speedy recovery. However, the petty side of me is thankful I do not have to watch or write about him for the rest of the season. The Jets did it the right way. They decided a route to go and went all in. Now, they have loads of picks over the next two years. As of now, we have one first rounder which we will probably end up taking an offensive lineman with. Then for the other picks, we’ll take the “high-upside” guys instead of the obvious picks who everyone knows will be good.
I actually think hanging a banner in DC for making the NFC championship is reasonable now. It might as well be a bigger accomplishment than the Eagles winning the Super Bowl considering the roster we had. I genuinely think we are currently the worst team in the NFL. It wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t win another game this season. I feel awful for all the fans going to Madrid. They spent thousands of dollars to go watch Jayden expecting we would have a winning record. Now, they get to fly across the Atlantic to watch Marcus Mariota throw to Chris Moore. I wouldn’t wish that even upon my worst enemy.
I’m keeping this one short because to be frank; what’s even the point of going in depth for being optimistic now. My outlook for the Lion’s game is very grim. They want revenge. We couldn’t compete with even the Jets right now. If I was a reasonable gambler, I would be taking the Lions -30. We are going to have 50 points put up on us. We will score a couple touchdowns once they pull their starters. I don’t even have anyone to take to score the first touchdown anymore. We lost Luke to a broken collarbone on the first play. I was honestly gutted by that one. I’m gonna miss watching Luke play football. Now, we just get to watch the bum Jaylin Lane fumble kick returns and drop passes. Mariota is going to have a great time running for his life because nobody can get open.
There are many, many people to blame for the way this season has gone. I am going to selfishly say I am not one of them. I don’t think any of the fans are to blame. Every game this season has been packed with burgundy and gold. Fans who stopped routing for this team years ago came back. The excitement prior to this season was the highest it has ever been. And, all for nothing. All for this team to throw in the towel and decide to go out there and shit the bed week in and week out. We are all fools. As if anything was every going to change in DC. I am officially closing the Super Bowl window until further notice. I do believe last season was the closest we’ll ever get to a Super Bowl in my lifetime. Thank god college basketball and hockey is back because there is nothing else worth routing for in DC right now. Actually, I will also add Alex Sarr to that list. He is the future of the Wizards. If you made it this far, I appreciate you and hope your feelings aren’t as negative as mine. Well, I guess looking forward to writing back next week after we somehow beat the Lions. Who am I kidding? See everyone next blog…
