Week 18 Outlook and Falcons Recap: Playoff Bound

First of all, happy 2025. Secondly, for the first time since 2020, we are going back to the playoffs. In my lifetime, I have had the pleasure of seeing the Redskins, Football Team, and now the Commies all take part in postseason football. We are the only fanbase in the league who has the honor of saying that. It is all thanks to Mr. Harris and Johnson who have been able to fully turn this ship around in such as short period of time. It definitely helps when you are handed the second coming of Jesus Christ in your first draft as owners.

The game itself was a nailbiter. It was another game proving we are the most exciting team to watch in the NFL. I would say I had one of my most favorite experiences ever in Landover. The last time I attended a SNF game was against the Giants two years ago in another win and were in situation. Then, the refs decided to fix the game and make the worst offsides call I have ever seen. Glad that didn’t happen again. Jayden took over in this one. When push came to shove, he used his legs and got out of every bad situation the Falcons put in front of him. It was an “Oh shit” moment when he got the wind knocked out of him in OT but equally as cool to see the stadium erupt with “MVP” chants. In my lifetime, it’s seemed like every time we were in a win and in situation; we find a way to blow and it go home. It was nice seeing it work in our favor this time around.

Despite a slow start, we managed to play ourselves back into the game in the second half. The defense stepped up and found the solution to Bijan Robinson who looked like he was en route to 50 fantasy points. Ertz stepped up bringing in two touchdowns and the game winner to send us home. He also had himself a payday racking in $750,000 worth of incentives for the season. Chris Rodriguez also played the best game of his career. I am puzzled by what has happened to BRob. Throughout the season, it seems he’s lost a step. It makes me think he isn’t fully healthy yet and we are going to need him in the playoffs. I don’t hate the idea of resting him this last game in hopes he finds the juice again.

The light shows throughout the game were very well done. While I have never attended an SEC football game, this was the closest environment I have come to one. There were not many open seats in that stadium. On top of that, the seats were filled with people wearing burgundy and routing for the home team. I’ve gone to games this year like the Steelers where our own fans were outnumbered at home. To the people who bought tickets for this game, maybe they’ll realize watching this team in person is more fun and start coming to games outside of primetime next season.

With this win, we now find ourselves in the 6 seed lining up for a game against the Rams if we get one more tomorrow. While the Rams are the hottest team in football, I would still prefer to play them over the Eagles. However, there is a chance the Bucs can overtake the 3 seed from the Rams after this weekend. In my opinion, that is our best case scenario. I know they dog walked us at the beginning of this season. But, given it was JD’s first game, I like our chances a lot more if we have the opportunity to line up against them this time around. I believe we need the Rams to lose, the Bucs to win, and us to win for this to work out. Regardless, we are in post season football at the 6 or 7 seed. After everything we’ve been through in the past, I don’t think we can be too picky.

I made the prediction in a blog weeks ago saying I would live bet our season win total at 12 wins. Barring another total meltdown, I think this is going to come true. Dallas has thrown in the towel and we are playing to avoid a trip up to Philly. I don’t expect another egg to be layed this time around. There’s not much else to say. It’s a new era in DC. I don’t think we’ll have to wait another 33 years for an 11 win season. There’s a lot to be proud of this year. It’s become cool to be a Washington fan again and it’s all thanks to our rookie phenom at quarterback. As you can tell, it’s a short blog this week. New Years activities took some thought away from this one. Lastly, congrats to the best special teams player in the league on the engagement. Wishing everyone a great Saturday. Good luck in life and with the bets. Looking forward to writing back to talk about post season football.
